The Manawatu Grunt was held a week late on the 29th August.  Petone had 6 crews entered, the best result was Conor Paul in the Single, for full details of the racing see www.rowit.co.nz/results .  Overall there were promising results all round.  There was a surprising turnout for the regatta, with a lot more entries than last season – hopefully this is a sign of the season to come!

There are a few rowers overseas flying the flat for Petone as well.  Caroline and Stewart Robertson are currently in spending some time in Scotland.  Caroline recently competed at the Scottish National Champs and gained a gold medal in the Intermediate 8+.  She also raced a 4+ and a 1x for the first time in quite a few years.

Erin Monique Shelton has also been busy, her crew came 9th in America at their nationals and Em has just completed the marathon erg, gaining the World Record time of 2 hours 52 minutes and 41 Seconds.

Well done guys!

Hello everybody and welcome back for another season at the Petone Rowing Club,

For those of you that do not know me from around and about the club, my name is Sarah Houston. I have been involved with the club, on and off, since 1998 in various roles. I came back to the club before last year’s season after five years of travelling to become part of the Club woman’s 8+. The atmosphere has changed a lot from what it was before I went away and this is a reflection of the current administration and rowers that have put in some amazing work over the last few years. I am very excited about being part of the rowing club at this time and helping it to grow even further, and turning this growth into medals at Nationals in Karapiro next year.

The club is looking great after all the hard work over the last few months to get the new paint job and brand new carpet in the gym. For anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, I encourage you to pop you head in and have a look, and maybe come down for a bit of a row on Sunday morning, its never too late to get back into rowing – after all, once a rower, always a rower.

Congratulations to Ben Norling on winning the rower of the year at the Samsung Awards and well done to Matt Cummings on winning the TRC Senior sculls award for School Boy Single Sculling for last season.

Its great to see so much energy around the club in the dead of winter. A lot of the guys and girls have been down doing a lot of land training and getting on the water in between southerlies. The turnout for club Sunday has been a bit disappointing lately but this will hopefully improve over the coming months as all the rowers are coming back off various winter sports.

Looking forward to the coming season, we have the Manawatu Grunt on the 21st of July and the Redding Shield regatta kicks off the new season on the 18th of August at the Korokoro course.
Watch this space for more updates.
