Different memories of the PRC
will be presented below on a regular basis.
The attached photo was taken around late 1909 and, as noted on the back of the photo. There is an ink mark next to my great-uncle in the middle of the photo
(it may be a bit hard to find it). His name was William Joseph Byrnes but was usually known as Doss Byrnes (or Burns) and it says that he was a member of petone Rowing Club. He lived in Fitzherbert Street, Petone from about 1907 to about 1912. He also fought some Middleweight and Welterweight title fights in NZ around 1910 and 1911.

Wonderful memories of the 1950 50th Anniversary of the Petone Rowing Club.

1990-1991: Petone Premier Quad: Twizel; Mike Benge, John Cook, Chris Gaudie, Dave Hanley.
1997 - NZ Coxed Four Amsterdam: Ian Smallman (Avon), Chris Jarvis (Auckland), Mike Benge (ex Petone - rowing from Union), Eddie Dunn (North Shore) Mike Whittiker ((Cox) North Shore).

This photo shows a group, including my grandfather Albert White.
Albert & Arthur Hickson were in
the first Sen winning
crew from Petone. Arthur was a nephew of Albert, & Albert coached & stroked the crew I was present
that day & hoped
to cox Dad's crew, but I had to go & do my paper run.
The photo from 1964, shows the club muster at Charteris Bay, (Lyttleton). I think that this as the day that we cleaned up just about every race that the club entered, in all grades.
